Glavkos Koumides [51818]

Glavkos Koumides was born in Nicosia in 1950. He lives and works in Germany. He studied Architecture at the School of Architecture in London and Psychology at the University of Cologne. A painter and engraver, he also writes literary texts, often related to his visual works. He has participated in both individual and group exhibitions in Germany and Cyprus. He represented Cyprus at the Venice Biennale in 1999. He was a member of the Artistsʼ Association of Germany and the Chamber of Fine Arts of Cyprus. In his work he often uses elements of Cypriot society and folklore, such as primordial symbols, byzantine ecclesiastical objects and furniture for both their aesthetic form and their conceptual importance.
