Raphael is an artist whose media span from the stretched line on a canvas to the cotton of African fabrics. He is a self-taught artist working with the sewing machine and over a decade of experience he developed an utterly unique style – obtaining a mixed matched patchwork of African materials to the canvas. Using Adinkra symbols from West Africa, his paintings capture the essence of a moment with simple details evoking peaceful reflection and colourful movements filled with positive energy. Mayne combines the traditional influences of his homeland Ghana with the modern aesthetics.
