Safaa Erruas [53667]

Born in 1976 in Tétouan, Morocco, where she lives and works. She graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tétouan. Soon after her graduation, Safaa began a series of exhibitions, in and outside Morocco: since 1999 she has been exhibiting regularly in France, at Institut du Monde Arabe, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, in Paris; Musée Départemental d’Art Contemporain de Rochechouart; Fondation Blachère, Apt; Casa Áraba in Madrid; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León and CAAM – Centro Atlantico de Arte Moderno, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain; Konstakademien in Stockholm; MAMA – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Algiers; Sakshi Gallery in Mumbai, India; MoCADA Museum in Brooklyn, NY, USA; Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat and Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre in Liverpool, NSW, Australia. She also participated in the Havana Biennial in 2015; the 25th Alexandria Biennale for Mediterranean Countries, Egypt, in 2009, where her work entitled The Moon Inside of Me won the award of the Biennial, and Dak’Art – Biennale de l’art africain contemporain, Dakar, in 2006 and 2002.
Erruas works generally on large sizes and designs, white themed installations leaving light to underline the spaces. They are sometimes stripped buildings, such Almohada, or assemblies created from the same items as knives: both works have been shown at MuHka Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp, Belgium.
