Writing Study for Tephra(53928)

Viviana Troya [53927]

Born in Pasto, Colombia, she lives and works in London. She studied Multimedia Art at the University of Los Andes, Bogotá, before moving to London, where she took an MA in Contemporary Art Practice from the Royal College of Art. Among other awards, she was the recipient of an Emerging Artist Award from the Government of Colombia in 2019. She has been awarded the scholarship Beca para colombianos en proceso de formación en el exterior, by the Columbian Ministry of Culture; Honorary Mention, art residency by the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, Canada; and first place in the 10th National Young Arts Competition organised by the Spanish Embassy and the Sanitas International Foundation in Bogotá.
Viviana Troya’s work concerns notions of temporal displacement and absence and employs technology, in an attempt to understand who and where we are in time. Formally, these ideas are explored through technologically supported installations that entail motion sensors, CCTV and sound, and investigate different qualities of time, the historical, and the mundane.
