Yvon Ngassam [53819]

Born in 1982 in Cameroon, where he lives and works. He enrolled at the Faculty of Economics and Management, University of Ngaoundéré, Cameroon, after obtaining a BA in Mathematics and Physics. In search of know-how, Yvon attended the “school of self-learning”. With photographer Hervé Dangla, during the triennale SUD – Salon Urbain de Douala, Cameroon – he has produced mini-documentaries on nature building coexistence, which led him to become more interested in the importance of photography as a trace of time.
He participated in several art residencies that allowed him to develop his artistic language: Le Centre, Cotonou, in 2018; Bandjoun Station, Cameroon, in 2016-2017; Gorée Diaspora Festival, Senegal, in 2016, and Les Ateliers Sahm, Brazzaville, where he won the International Prize for the Best Video Art in 2014. Yvon participated in several group exhibitions, at the Changjiang International Photo & Video Biennale, China, and Arakawa Africa, Ogu Mag gallery, Tokyo, in collaboration with the Yaoundé Photo Network, among others. He has taken part in several collateral projects at Dak’Art – Biennale de l’art africain contemporain in Dakar in 2018 and 2016. Several magazines in the eld of contemporary art have written about his work, such as Diptyk Magazine and Something We Africans Got (SWAG). The artist expresses himself through photography, video art, sound, sculpture, installation and performance.
His work explores several thematic fields, such as memory (in its historical and anthropological aspect), body, space, travel and resilience.
